Penang Remains Malaysia’s Top Exporter With 29.9% Followed By Johor And Selangor
Based on the latest trade report from DOSM, Penang remains Malaysia’s main exporter with a contribution of 29.9 %, and experienced double-digit growth of 30.3 %, reaching RM463.3 billion in the year 2022. The main commodity export for Penang is valuable integrated electronic circuits RM187.8 billion (2021: RM142.5 billion, +31.8%).
China continues to be the main destination for Penang’s exports which contributed 17.8 % with an increase year to year of 22.4 %. Imports recorded a growth of 26.4 % compared to the previous year, reaching an import value of a new high of RM293.1 billion. Integrated electronic circuit products continue to be Penang’s main import commodity, worth RM106.2 billion (2021: RM74.2 billion, +43.1%). China remains the main country of origin for Penang’s imports, accounting for 24.1 % recording a growth of 21.2 % compared to the previous year
Coming in second in terms of export is Johor, the state’s exports recorded double-digit growth of 35.2 % to RM325.5 billion compared to 2021. The main commodity export for the state of Johor is the output of refined petroleum worth RM102.1 billion (2021: RM56.2 billion, +81.5%). Singapore continues to dominate as the main export destination country in 2022 with a contribution of 28.5 % of Johor’s exports, increasing 40.0 % year on year. At the same time, imports in 2022 recorded a growth of 49.7 % compared to the previous year, recording a new high import value of RM289.8 billion. Refined petroleum products remain the main import commodity for the state of Johor which is worth RM97.4 billion (2021: RM61.5 billion, +58.5%). China remains a country Johor’s main import origin increased 27.3 % compared to the previous year with 17.4 % contribution.
Selangor still is in the top three, exports will grow by 8.8 % in 2022, reaching RM277.0 billion, surpassing the previous year’s figure. Selangor’s main commodity exports are integrated electronic circuits worth RM34.4 billion (2021: RM27.6 billion, +24.7%).
China remains the main export destination in 2022, contributing 12.4 %, indicating an increase of 7.0 % year-on-year. Selangor continues to dominate Malaysian imports with 25.7 %, saw a growth of 20.2 %, recording the value of imports a new high of RM333.4 billion in 2022. Electrical and electronic goods the other remain the main import commodity for Selangor, with a value of RM18.4 billion (2021: RM16.6 billion, +10.5%).
