Malaysia, China sign MOU to enhance trade, economic cooperation

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and China Premier Li Qiang witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the two nations at the Great Hall of the People here on 1st April .

 

International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz signed on behalf of the Malaysian Government.

 

Anwar and Qiang also witnessed the signing of two other MOUs between the two governments – one involving protocols on phytosanitation for exporting jackfruit to China between Malaysia's Agriculture and Food Safety Ministry and the General Administration of Customs China and the other on the need for quarantine and health protocols for the import of aquaculture products from Malaysia to China.

 

The signings preceded a welcoming banquet hosted by Li for the Malaysian Prime Minister and his delegation at the Great Hall of the People.

 

Anwar is accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir; International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz; Transport Minister Anthony Loke; Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming; Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang; Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

 

Anwar is expected to give a press conference to the Malaysian media at 8.30pm 1st April before ending his official visit to China.

 

He is expected to depart for Malaysia at about 9pm 1st April.
