KUALA LUMPUR: The Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant, closed since Saturday due to odour pollution in the raw water source, resumed operations this afternoon.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) corporate communications head Abdul Halem Mat Som, in a statement today, said the plant resumed full operations at 1pm. However the Bukit Tampoi water treatment plant remains closed.

“The water treatment and distribution process will take some time before the supply is stable to be distributed to consumers.

“Air Selangor will keep consumers informed of the latest developments regarding the water distribution.”

Halem said in an effort to ensure that the level of odour pollution does not rise again in the Sungai Semenyih plant, Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) was taking proactive steps by pumping water from Tasik Idaman to Sungai Semenyih for the purpose of stabilising and diluting the odour.

“With this measure, Air Selangor hopes that the odour pollution will not recur,” he said.

Halem further said to help consumers affected by these unplanned interruptions, Air Selangor continues to actively provide emergency water supplies with frequent deployment of water tanker trucks.

He said 11 local service centres will continue to operate 24 hours in four districts as previously listed.

He advised consumers to visit the centres so that complaints and problems ccould be resolved immediately.

This, he said, was to avoid congestion at the Air Selangor call centre.

Consumers were also asked to use public taps installed at 14 locations throughout the affected areas to obtain their water supply.

In addition to these, Halem said Air Selangor also distributes five-litre bottled water to consumers, especially to high-rise building residents.

“As of noon, today, 6,930 bottles of drinking water had been distributed to the affected areas.

“We are asking users to be patient with this unwanted situation and we are taking more proactive steps to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”

Affected residents are advised to get the latest information on the water disruption via Air Selangor’s mobile phone application, website (www.airselangor.com.my), Facebook page (Air Selangor), or Twitter account (@airselangor).
